So Memex doesn't think for you — it builds understanding that stays yours. A private chief of staff that remembers everything you've read and decided, acts on it across your Mac, and cites every answer. Local by design; nothing ever leaves your machine.

Cloud AI forgets you the moment
you close the tab. Memex compounds.
Every decision, position, and source you give it makes Memex smarter about your world — and none of it ever leaves your machine. You're not renting intelligence; you're building a private asset that appreciates.
Most apps store your notes. Memex understands them — turning books, articles, PDFs, and decisions into a connected brain it can reason over, act on, and cite. For founders, professionals, and executives whose work is confidential by obligation.
Books, articles, web clips, PDFs, meeting notes, decisions — dropped into a markdown vault that stays immutable at the source.
Plain-English questions over everything you've ever saved. Semantic and keyword search across years of notes, in seconds.
Every synthesis links back to your own sources. No hallucinated facts — if it isn't in your vault, Memex tells you.
Useful answers file back into the wiki, so your knowledge gets richer instead of being re-derived every session.
Prep meetings from your own history, draft decision memos and board updates, assemble concept maps — work done, not just discussed.
Runs entirely on your machine. A public/private boundary means private notes never leak into anything you choose to share.
Run Memex entirely on-device for total privacy, or plug in a frontier model with your own API key when you want maximum capability. Either way, your vault stays in plain markdown on your Mac.
A capable local model runs on Apple Silicon, fully offline. Nothing — not a single word — ever leaves your machine.
Opt in per task: route a single answer to a frontier model — Claude, GPT, Gemini and more — when a question deserves the very best reasoning. Off by default; you choose, every time.
Same notes. Different foundation. Here's what changes when your memory lives on your machine.

Because Memex runs on your machine, your data never enters a third party's systems — which collapses most of the GDPR surface structurally. No cross-border transfer, no third-party processor, you stay the sole data controller.
True today, on every tier. Your notes, sources, and questions stay on your Mac — there's nothing to transfer and no processor to trust.
With a DPA and a security-review pack for procurement, so your security team can sign off. Built for regulated work: legal, finance, healthcare, and the boardroom.
Optional frontier-model mode is off by default and clearly flagged when on. Only the prompt for that answer is sent — never your vault — and it runs on the provider's own SOC 2 / GDPR posture.
Download, point it at your notes, and ask. No cloud to configure, no account to create. Completely private.
Drop the app in your Applications folder. It creates a local markdown vault on your Mac — that's the entire setup.
Import notes, clip articles, drop in PDFs and books. Memex keeps the raw source and builds a linked wiki around it.
Press the shortcut anywhere. Memex reads your vault, answers with citations, and files the answer back in.
Every option runs entirely on your Mac — privacy is never a paid feature. Join the waitlist for founder pricing; we'll share the numbers at launch.

Yes. Memex runs entirely on your Mac. Your notes, sources, and questions never leave your machine — there's no cloud, no account, and no telemetry. Your vault is plain markdown files you own and can open in any text editor.
Yes. With the local model, capture, search, and synthesis all run on-device with no internet at all. Frontier-model answers and optional web look-ups are the only things that need a connection.
Both ends of the spectrum. Memex runs a capable local model entirely on your Mac — fully offline and private. Or bring your own API key to route synthesis to the best frontier models (Claude, GPT, Gemini and others) when a question deserves maximum reasoning. With the API option, only the prompt for that answer is sent — your vault is never uploaded — and you can switch per task: local for private, frontier for hard.
Any Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS 14 Sonoma or newer, with 8GB+ RAM. MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro all qualify. A Mac Studio unlocks the largest local-model presets.
Cloud "second brains" store your data on someone else's servers. Note apps store but don't understand. Chatbots forget you between sessions. Memex keeps everything on your Mac, remembers across years, answers with citations to your own sources, and gets smarter as you use it.
Three things: Memex — the software, with the compounding brain and the chief-of-staff agent, everything included. Memex Station — a pre-configured Mac that arrives ready to run, zero setup. Memex Enterprise — team licensing with a DPA, SOC 2 roadmap, and a security-review pack. Pricing is announced at launch; waitlist members get founder pricing. Every option runs entirely on your Mac — privacy is never a paid feature.
Memex is GDPR-compliant by architecture today: because everything runs on your Mac, there's no cross-border transfer and no third-party processor — you remain the sole data controller. SOC 2 Type II is in progress, and we provide a DPA and a security-review pack for procurement. The one exception is the optional frontier-model mode — off by default, disclosed when on, sending only that single prompt, never your vault.
The engine, MemexLab, is open source on GitHub — you can inspect exactly what touches your data and extend it. The Mac app packages it into a polished, one-click product with the Pro features above.
If it has an M-series chip and 8GB+ of RAM, Memex runs fully on-device.
Private. Compounding. Yours.
